Helping the Heroes: FCA Welcomes First Responders (Part 3)

With change, often comes challenge. Just ask a first responder.

Police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, etc., are tasked with making split-second decisions, under the most stressful conditions, in order to save lives and protect property. And when vehicles are involved, the best decisions are informed decisions.

To this end, FCA recently hosted 45 first responders at the Company’s proving grounds in Chelsea, Mich.* The goal was to familiarize them with the most up-to-date designs and technology, by providing access to current, pre-production vehicles built specifically for testing, not for sale.

Alternately, such training is usually conducted with older vehicles, which affords less insight than hands-on exposure to new ones.

“It was absolutely an honor to help these people,” says Cameron Cowser, FCA Team Lead – Fire and Engine Systems Product Investigations.

* Chelsea Proving Grounds is on 4,000 acres of land about 70 miles from FCA headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich. FCA engineers and technical experts there have conducted more than 24,000 crash tests since the facility opened in 1954. The Company recently invested more than $30 million in the site.
