Wrangler Wednesday: Two engine options power the all-new 2018 Jeep® Wrangler

The all-new 2018 Jeep® Wrangler has two available gasoline engines to power drivers and passengers on a number of adventures on- and off-road.

Both engines, the all-new 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine and the 3.6L Pentastar engine, offer unmatched capability.

The all-new 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine with eTorque technology is rated a best-in-class 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Additionally, the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine’s torque output surpasses that of the V-6 engine offered in Wrangler.

While the new engine offers V-6 muscle, it also sips gas through fuel-saving functions, including auto-stop/start, electric power assist, extended fuel shutoff, transmission shift management, intelligent battery charging and regenerative braking. Direct injection boosts power while reducing emissions, and with the new 8-speed transmission, drivers will experience stronger takeoffs and smoother highway coasting.

In the addition to the new 2.0L Turbo I-4 engine, those considering a new Jeep Wrangler can choose the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine. This has been the main engine for the Jeep Wrangler since 2012 and, for the new Wrangler, it has received enhancements that include:

3.6L Pentastar V-6 engine

  • Weight reductions that boost the engine’s performance
  • Fuel-economy improvements of nearly 11% compared to the previous Pentastar generation
  • The addition of Engine Stop/Start (ESS) technology offers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is also standard with a new six-speed manual Wrangler.

Hello from the Motor City! I’m Edward Cardenas and I’m multimedia editor for Stellantis. As a lifelong Detroiter, I have been surrounded by the automotive industry. I’ve had members of my immediate and extended family work in the industry. I’ve covered it as a journalist and advocated for it as a communications professional. I have also experienced the thrills of the industry while riding in a race car at nearly 200 miles per hour. Having this breadth of experience, I look forward to drawing upon my experiences to bring a wide range of stories, photos and videos about Chrysler, FIAT and Alfa Romeo to Stellantis Digital Media. When I’m not covering my brands, I’m spending time with my wife and two boys.
