All-new Chrysler Pacifica created by minivan owners

Years of professional experience and personal use of minivans went into the design and creation of the all-new Chrysler Pacifica.

Chrysler invented the minivan segment in 1984, and since it was introduced, more than 14.3 million have been sold.

Those who purchased the minivan through the years have included FCA employees Winnie Cheung and Jessica LaFond.

For Chrysler Pacifica chief interior designer Winnie Cheung, a Chrysler Town & Country was the first vehicle her parents purchased after her family immigrated to United States from Hong Kong when she was 7 years old.

It was a second-generation minivan, maroon with a gold pinstripe.

For her parents, it was “luxurious, convenient and comfortable.”

For a young Cheung, it was a “first-class space ship.”

This sense of adventure and style continued into adulthood for Cheung, who oversaw the interior design of the new minivan. She stated the new minivan has a “muscular feel with a soft exterior” along with the latest in technology.

Cheung added that the all-new Pacifica offers a “new level of luxury” and is “refined, stylish and comfortable.”

Beyond the best-in-class leg room, additional storage and unique color palette, the Pacifica has the latest in technology with a flush-mounted Uconnect touchscreen, an exclusive Uconnect Theater rear seat entertainment system and a Stow ‘n Vac integrated vacuum.

The lead engineer for the all-new Pacifica also has a history with the minivan. Jessica LaFond has driven a minivan for 15 years and now she “can’t wait to bring this one home” and have her “cool factor” go up.

She stated that it was time to update the minivan, and that is exactly what Chrysler’s engineers and designers did. It’s over 240 pounds lighter and has nearly 200 cubic feet of interior space, a 360-degree Surround View camera and additional features to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

“The entire architecture is brand new from the bottom up,” LaFond said. “We have redesigned everything to bring this forward.”

Hello from the Motor City! I’m Edward Cardenas and I’m multimedia editor for Stellantis. As a lifelong Detroiter, I have been surrounded by the automotive industry. I’ve had members of my immediate and extended family work in the industry. I’ve covered it as a journalist and advocated for it as a communications professional. I have also experienced the thrills of the industry while riding in a race car at nearly 200 miles per hour. Having this breadth of experience, I look forward to drawing upon my experiences to bring a wide range of stories, photos and videos about Chrysler, FIAT and Alfa Romeo to Stellantis Digital Media. When I’m not covering my brands, I’m spending time with my wife and two boys.
