Stuff the CANvan

The ‘CAN’avan is coming to Toronto! No, it’s not a new model that you can find in dealerships. But rather a life-size Dodge Grand Caravan completely built out of cans.

If you’re like me, you’re probably thinking, “Oh, cool, recycled cans are melted down to make the sheet metal for a car.” But that’s not it. Think more like LEGOs®. But instead, each piece will be a can of food.

Since it’s the 30th anniversary of the minivan, Chrysler Canada wanted to commemorate Canada’s favorite minivan in a big way, literally. The company partnered with CANstruction to help with the build, which will be largest such project undertaken in Canada. To make such a huge structure, a lot of “building blocks” are needed. The Chrysler Foundation donated 30,000 cans and 1,000 bottles in order to complete the ‘CAN’avan.

This creation isn’t only a cool project, but also a way to raise awareness about hunger and poverty. After the ‘CAN’avan is completed, the food will be donated to Toronto’sDaily Bread food banks.

The construction will be on Monday, October 28 from 5 a.m. till 4 p.m. The completed structure will be on display till 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29.

2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 30th Anniversary Edition

Now we know it will take 30,000 cans to build a minivan, but how many cans does it take to fill an actual minivan? Chrysler Group needs your help to find out. Stop by the construction, or actually “can”struction site in Young-Dundas Square in Toronto to donate additional food to Daily Bread. A 2014 30th Anniversary Edition Dodge Caravan will be used a community food collection bin.
