2016 in the rearview mirror: Chrysler

Editor’s Note: This is the first in our series of blog posts looking at 2016 in the rearview mirror. Through the end of the year, your FCA Digital Media team will explore the highlights of FCA US brands, as well as milestones from safety and manufacturing.

We hope you’ll enjoy this review of 2016, and look forward with us to an even better 2017.

The all-new Chrysler Pacifica was introduced in 2016, raising the bar for minivan safety, technology and functionality.

In addition to welcoming a new minivan in 2016, Chrysler also was recognized for vehicle safety and unveiled special editions of its cars.

Welcome Pacifica

Chrysler invented the minivan segment more than 30 years ago, and in 2016, it once again revolutionized the industry with the introduction of the all-new Chrysler Pacifica at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Re-engineered from the ground up, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica comes with nearly 40 new minivan firsts, the largest interior volume in the segment and more than 100 standard and available safety and security features.

Pacifica Hybrid launched

The Chrysler Pacifica is changing the industry with one of its minivan innovations. Production began this year of the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, the industry’s first electrified minivan.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid earned an EPA rating of 84 miles-per-gallon-equivalent (MPGe), 33 miles of all-electric range and 566 miles of total range.

Five-star rating

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded Five-star Safety ratings to two Chrysler vehicles in 2016. The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the 2017 Chrysler 200 mid-size sedan (FWD version) both received five stars from NHTSA. Five stars is the highest possible score in NHTSA’s safety rating program.

Alloy editions

Chrysler debuted two special-edition versions of the 200S and 300S at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. The Alloy editions feature industrious exterior and interior features, sport-tuned suspensions and available advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) systems.

Hello from the Motor City! I’m Edward Cardenas and I’m multimedia editor for Stellantis. As a lifelong Detroiter, I have been surrounded by the automotive industry. I’ve had members of my immediate and extended family work in the industry. I’ve covered it as a journalist and advocated for it as a communications professional. I have also experienced the thrills of the industry while riding in a race car at nearly 200 miles per hour. Having this breadth of experience, I look forward to drawing upon my experiences to bring a wide range of stories, photos and videos about Chrysler, FIAT and Alfa Romeo to Stellantis Digital Media. When I’m not covering my brands, I’m spending time with my wife and two boys.
